Emergencies are best described as situations that arise that require immediate attention. This is the same for dental emergencies. Dental emergencies require urgent dental care, and patients in the area of Eugene, Oregon, who need same-day attention will want to call Drs. Ty Jaros, Robert Gemmell, and Jacob Gubrud of Distinctive Dentistry. Our team sees patients for same-day dental appointments when problems arise.
What falls under emergency dentistry?
Patients are often curious about what situations require an emergency dental appointment and which ones can wait for care and attention during regular business hours. Dental emergencies cause extreme pain and discomfort and require immediate attention and care from a skilled dental professional at our office to prevent further damage or infection.
Common dental emergencies include:
- Severe toothaches. A severe toothache may indicate a cavity or infection in the tooth. If left untreated, it can potentially result in an abscessed tooth.
- Broken or chipped teeth. Accidents happen, and sometimes they involve our teeth. Broken or chipped teeth are considered emergencies because they can be painful and may also affect the overall function of your mouth.
- Knocked-out teeth. In the event of a knocked-out tooth, it is essential to seek immediate dental care. The sooner the tooth can be reinserted into the socket, the higher the chances are for successful re-implantation.
- Abscessed or infected gums. An abscessed or infected gum may start as a small, seemingly harmless bump on your gum but can quickly escalate into a more damaging and serious infection if not addressed immediately. This might require treatments such as root canal therapy to address.
